PORTLAND TRIBUNE SPONSORSHIPS

Portland Tribune Mission Statement
The Portland Tribune is Portland's independent newspaper that is trusted to deliver a compelling, forward-thinking and accurate living chronicle about how our citizens, government and businesses live, work and play. The Portland Tribune is dedicated to providing vital communication and leadership throughout our community.

Thank you for your interest in a Portland Tribune sponsorship. The Portland Tribune commits its efforts toward events and programs that will positively impact the community while generating visibility for the newspaper. We sponsor local organizations and events whose mission fits within the following areas: education and literacy, neighborhood vitality, family-oriented activities and wellness, and the local arts.

An application for sponsorship should be completed and returned to us a minimum of six months prior to the event. Applications received later than that will be considered secondary sponsorships. Some of the criteria we use to choose which sponsorship opportunities we.ll accept are:
  • Does this sponsorship/event/organization fall into one of the categories we.ve chosen to focus on? (education and literacy, neighborhood vitality, family-oriented activities and wellness, local arts organizations)
  • Is this a successful, proven, well-organized event? If it is a new event, is it well-planned, does it have financial backing, a clear goal and a solid plan for achieving that goal?
  • Will both organizations benefit? Is the event/organization a good .fit. with the Portland Tribune? Will Tribune readers benefit by our involvement in the event?
  • Will the Tribune be the exclusive print media? Will we be included in all advertising, including television and radio spots for the event? Will we have visibility at the event with banner placement, a booth, stage mentions, etc.?
  • Is there opportunity for the Tribune to further our relationships with readers, advertisers and local business leaders? Is there leadership opportunity for the Tribune through association with this event?
  • Will more people be aware of the Portland Tribune and be likely to read the paper through sponsorship of this event?

For in-kind sponsorships, the event producer and the Portland Tribune sponsorship manager should agree upon promotional ad schedules in writing. The Tribune makes every effort to place ads on requested dates in requested sections, but due to the nature of breaking news and unpredictable space demands, section placement cannot be guaranteed. If a sponsorship ad is bumped out of the paper completely, a make-good ad will be provided. All parties should approve copy and layouts of sponsorship ads. Sponsorship ads should be provided to the Portland Tribune camera-ready and by deadline.

The Portland Tribune will provide our logo in black and white and color for inclusion in all advertising and event promotional materials. Promotional ads in the Tribune should only include logos from sponsors offering a comparable level of commitment. Logos of sponsors who do not offer reciprocal promotion should not be included in newspaper promotional ads.
All Portland Tribune sponsorships are formalized with Letters of Agreement, which are generated by the Portland Tribune sponsorship manager. These letters need to be signed by both parties prior to promotional ads appearing in the paper.

Event organizers will be asked to evaluate the success of the sponsorship with the Portland Tribune at the conclusion of the event and the Tribune will use the evaluation to determine future sponsorships.

To obtain an application for sponsorship, please contact the Tribune's sponsorship manager Jill Keith, 503-546-9893, or [email protected]. Or download the sponsorship application HERE. Mail completed applications to:

    Portland Tribune
    Attn: Jill Keith
    1325 S.W. Custer Drive
    Portland, OR 97219

You will receive a written or verbal reply to your request within four weeks of receipt of the application.
